Father of four children, ESSIMI MENYE was born on 28 September 1950 at Mfomakap. Statistician and Economist, he served from 1983 to 1990 in the Ministry of Plan and Regional Development. Within this period, he was the Deputy Chief of service for Industrial Statistics at the Department of Statistics; he conducted an industrial census which led to an industrial databank.
At the international level, from 1990 to 1992, he was Resident Technical Adviser at the Ministry of Plan in Kigali (Rwanda) for UNDP and from 1992 to 1994 for the World Bank.
Based in Washington from 1994, he continued collaborating with the World Bank until 2003. During this period, he became a member of numerous teams in charge of supervising socio-economic projects initiated by the Bank for Africa. In 2003, he joined the World Bank bureau representing 24 French speaking countries as an Adviser, until September 2006, when he was appointed Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of Budget. 7th September 2007, he was appointed Minister of Finance.
