The salaried agent cannot have an agency.

Profile of the agent (Articles 329, 502, 506, 515 of the CIMA Code)

To be a salaried agent of a Broker or a General Agent or an insurance Company, the candidate should:

  • either, have the \”Diploma of Insurance Technician\” (DTA) from the International Insurance Institute (IIA) or any other certificate judged equivalent by IIA and having effected a six (06) months internship in an insurance structure;
  • or, have the Diploma of Technical Agent of Insurance (DATA) from IIA or any other certificate judged equivalent by IIA and having a professional experience of at least two (02) years in the insurance sector ;
  • or fulfil the conditions of professional capacity provided for in article 329 of the CIMA Code;
  • fulfil the conditions of honourableness (article 506 of the CIMA Code).
  • for the Salaried Agent designated to head an agency, fulfil the conditions of professional capacity required of brokers or General Agents.

Profile of the head of the agency (Articles 329, 506, 514 of the CIMA Code)

  • either, have a certificate of Masters in Insurance Sciences Techniques (MSTA) from the \”International Insurance Institute\” (IIA) or any other certificate judged equivalent by IIA and having effected a professional internship of six (06) months in an insurance organisation (Article 514 of the CIMA Code) ;
  • or, have a \”Diploma of Insurance Technician\” (DTA) from the IIA or any other certificate judged equivalent by IIA and having a professional experience of at least two (02) years within the insurance sector (Article 514 the CIMA code), notably in the production or application of the insurance contracts;
  • or, having exercised full time for two years at least as manager or head of a business concern, posts of responsibility in an industrial or commercial enterprise, as well as the completion of a professional internship of at least six (06) months (Article 514 of the CIMA code) ;
  • or fulfil the conditions of professional capacity provided for in article 329 of the CIMA Code;
  • fulfil the conditions of honourableness (article 506 of the CIMA Code).

Composition of the file

  • The Insurance Company having mandated the General Agent or having designated his Agents or the Broker, addresses a (01) stamped application specifying the agency to which the applicant is attached, to the Minister in charge of the insurance sector (Article 518 of the CIMA Code) accompanied by the following documents :
  • two(02) passport sized photographs 4 x 4 ;
  • a certified true copy of the birth certificate dated less than six (06) months;
  • a certificate of non conviction of less than three (03) months ;
  • a curriculum vitae dated and signed ;
  • a declaration form (CIMA model), signed by the Public Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance;
  • a certified true copy of the certificate featuring in the list published by CRCA ;
  • an attestation of presentation of the original of the said certificate ;
  • a booklet or an attestation of professional internship if need be;
  • an attestation of duty ;
  • a labour contract;
  • the last three pay vouchers;
  • a DIPE coupon;
  • the registration number at the NSIF ;
  • a certificate of nationality ;
  • for foreigners, a resident card in addition to any other document deemed necessary.
